When the Plum Tree Blossomed

When I first showed this poem to a literary-minded couple I have known for many years (one of them now deceased), they had very different reactions to the theme that may undergird the words.

For her, there was a sort of affirmation to the poem; the constant, ongoing renewal found everywhere in nature is an offset of human frailty, she might have said.  For him, nature remained indifferent to suffering.

If you would like to make your own assessment, you can listen to my reading of “When the Plum Tree Blossomed” in this podcast.
